Just a One Night's Stay

One of the many things I like about living in Northern California is that you can actually drive a short distance and feel like you've "gone away". For this little jaunt we headed to Volcano Ca. which is just over an hour from Sacramento, my kind of driving. Thanks to our paper, The Sacramento Bee and the write up they did a few weeks ago, we decided to stay at the Volcano Union Inn http://www.volcanounion.com/pages/home.cgi.

Of course my dear husband was with me to experience it all. We enjoyed an evenings meal on their delightful patio and I ordered the Duck Wings with an Orange Glaze which were a recommendation. The waitress told me it was a 48 hours process to prepare, one I would never duplicate at home. Upon registering I enjoyed a nice glass of Chardonnay and some red bell pepper spread on a crostini. A great way to start the weekend.

Our room was small but functional.  

You can enjoy some refreshments here in this common area and there was a lending library with books, magazines and DVD's.

Enjoy your glass of wine or read a book out on the balcony. It was too hot for me on the day we were there.

This cracked me up but it did tell me where to find the emergency ladder.

                                           
I love history and we enjoyed walking down the main part of town and reading the various plaques with some interesting information. This building sign said it was a museum but it was closed when we stopped by. Another stop we would like to make is Daffodil Hill which features many varieties of daffodils. I hope to go back another time in April to see that.

This is a little bakery created out of one of the many historical landmarks there.

This is the St. George Hotel which was built in 1862. They hold weddings and receptions there and, of course, they offer dining.

You don't see these often anymore so I  had to take a pic. The signs says, "Please do not vandalize this phone booth. I have no place else to change clothes." - Superman

On the way out of town we made a stop at this tourist attraction. If stalactites, stalagmites, flow-stones and rare helictite crystals are your thing, make this stop.http://www.caverntours.com/BlackRt.htm

My camera had a hard time with the exposure in the cavern. Hopefully, you get the idea of what you can experience here.
